BRUSSELS AIRLINES | Lorenza Maggio to succeed Dorothea von Boxberg as CEO

Lorenza Maggio has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of Brussels Airlines, pending approval by the Board of Directors of SN Airholding. She will succeed Dorothea von Boxberg, who is leaving the airline at her own request on 31 August 2026.

In addition to leading the Belgian carrier, Maggio will also take on the role of Executive Board Representative to the European Commission within the Lufthansa Group. The date of her move from Rome to Brussels has yet to be announced.

Maggio, 48, is currently a member of the Board of Directors of ITA Airways, where she has served as Chief Strategy and Integration Officer since January 2025. In that role, she has overseen the Italian airline’s integration into the Lufthansa Group while also shaping its long-term strategy.

Before joining ITA Airways, the Italian executive was Vice President Sales for the Lufthansa Group’s network airlines across Europe (excluding the home markets), the Middle East, and Africa. She also previously held senior leadership roles at Eurowings, where she was responsible for brand and customer strategy, and at the LSG Group, where she served as managing director of one of the catering company’s subsidiaries.

Announcing the appointment, Dieter Vranckx, chairman of the Board of Directors of SN Airholding and chief commercial officer of the Lufthansa Group, described Maggio as an experienced international airline executive with extensive knowledge of both the aviation industry and the Lufthansa Group.

He said her expertise would help further develop Brussels Airlines as an integrated hub airline within the group and welcomed the fact that the company had once again filled the position with an internal candidate. Vranckx also thanked outgoing CEO Dorothea von Boxberg for her years of service to the Lufthansa Group.

Von Boxberg has led Brussels Airlines since April 2023. During her tenure, the airline continued its post-pandemic recovery, expanded its network and strengthened its position within the Lufthansa Group.
