2026 marks the nineteenth (19th) edition of Antwerp Pride. From Wednesday 5 to Sunday 9 August, Antwerp in Belgium will once again be taken over by rainbow vibes. Prides are a mix of celebration – parties – and activism and advocacy. For the 2026 edition, the organising committee focuses on fearing less and being fearless.
The Museum Aan de Stroom or Museum At the Stream (MAS) will shine a spotlight on LGBTQIA+ lives and histories with a major new exhibition opening next year. ‘Between us. Exploring queer spaces’, running from 26 February to 30 August 2027, explores what it means to live authentically, build relationships and create space for queer lives in society.
The exhibition brings together personal testimonies, heritage objects, photographs and artworks to tell stories from within the LGBTQIA+ community. Rather than presenting queer experiences as those of a separate group, ‘Between Us’ invites visitors to reflect on universal themes such as identity, belonging, exclusion and self-expression.
According to the museum, the exhibition follows LGBTQIA+ lives in Antwerp from the 1960s to the present day. Visitors are guided through themes including intimacy and encounter, chosen family, body and vulnerability, and community and struggle. Along the way, the exhibition examines how queer communities have helped shape the city while also showing how Antwerp has alternately provided space, imposed restrictions and evolved over time.
A central feature of ‘Between Us’ is its close collaboration with LGBTQIA+ individuals, organisations and community groups. Their experiences form the core of the exhibition, while the museum places these stories within the wider history of emancipation, discrimination, persecution, joy and the ongoing fight for equal rights.
The MAS describes ‘Between Us’ as an invitation not only to discover the stories of others, but also to reflect on one’s own experiences of acceptance, visibility and belonging. By connecting personal narratives with broader social history, the exhibition aims to encourage visitors to consider both the progress that has been made and the challenges that remain for LGBTQIA+ people today.
‘Between us. Exploring queer spaces’ will be on display at the MAS in Antwerp from 26 February until 30 August 2027.
