Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA) ‘In Bloom’: a bold dialogue between flowers and art, from 30 April to 10 May 2026

From 30 April to 10 May 2026, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen, KMSKA) will host ‘In Full Bloom‘, an extraordinary exhibition where contemporary floral art meets the museum’s historic collection. For eleven days, fifteen Belgian florists will transform the galleries of old and modern masters with unique, temporary installations inspired by specific artworks or locations within the museum.

The exhibition explores themes of transience and eternity, juxtaposing the fleeting beauty of flowers with the enduring presence of paintings and sculptures. The delicate yet powerful arrangements engage in a dynamic dialogue with works by artists such as Oskar Kokoschka, Lucio Fontana, Vincent van Gogh, Yves Klein, and Anish Kapoor

Sometimes harmonious, sometimes contrasting, these floral interpretations add a new layer of meaning, inviting visitors to see the collection from a fresh perspective.

Guest curator Gert Voorjans, a renowned Belgian interior designer and scenographer, has shaped the exhibition’s immersive experience. His layered approach aligns with the KMSKA’s ambition to bridge the old and the new, offering innovative ways for diverse audiences to connect with art.

As Luk Lemmens, chair of KMSKA vzw, notes, ‘In Full Bloom’ challenges the traditional museum experience, making art accessible through the sensory richness of floral artistry.

Participating florists include Annelies Vansant, Bloemen Van Cornelis, De Groene Droom, De Groene Oase, Erik Dhont Landscape Architects, Mark Colle – Baltimore, Michel Mullèr, Monsieur F, Nectar, Nele Ost, Ounie Flowers, Owen Flowers & Hurricanes, Raf Verwimp, Ronald Van Der Hilst, and Thierry Boutemy.
