Azerbaijan Airlines to launch direct Brussels – Baku flights in 2027

Travellers will soon have a new direct air link between Belgium and Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan’s national carrier, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), has announced it will launch scheduled non-stop flights between Brussels and Baku from 8 May 2027.

The new service will operate four times a week, with flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Tickets for the route are already on sale through the airline’s website, mobile app, ticket offices and authorised travel agencies.

AZAL said the new connection is intended to strengthen business, tourism and cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Belgium, while offering passengers a direct link between Baku and Brussels, one of Europe‘s main political, economic and transport hubs.

As the home of the headquarters of the European Union and NATO, Brussels is a major centre for diplomacy and international business. The airline also highlights the Belgian capital’s historic attractions, including the Grand-Place, the Atomium, its museums and renowned gastronomy.

The airline also points to Brussels’ role as an important transport hub, with high-speed rail links providing easy onward connections to destinations including Amsterdam, Luxembourg and Cologne.

The Brussels route marks a further expansion of AZAL’s European network and adds another long-haul destination to the route map of Brussels Airport from spring 2027.

Why Azerbaijan could appeal to Belgian travellers

The new direct flights will also make Azerbaijan considerably more accessible for Belgian travellers looking to explore a destination that remains relatively undiscovered in Western Europe.

The country’s capital, Baku, is known for its striking contrast between old and new. The UNESCO-listed Old City, with its medieval walls, palaces and narrow streets, sits alongside futuristic landmarks such as the Flame Towers and the Heydar Aliyev Center. Strolling along the Caspian Sea waterfront, visiting traditional tea houses and sampling Azerbaijani cuisine are among the city’s main attractions.

Beyond Baku, Azerbaijan offers a surprisingly varied landscape. Visitors can explore the snow-capped Caucasus Mountains, hike through national parks, discover ancient Silk Road towns such as Sheki, or visit mud volcanoes and the natural gas fires that have earned the country its nickname, the ‘Land of Fire‘.

Motorsport fans may already know Baku from the Formula 1 calendar. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix, held on a spectacular street circuit through the city centre, combines high-speed sections with the narrow streets of the historic Old City and has become one of Formula 1’s most unpredictable and popular races.

Azerbaijan is also increasingly positioning itself as a destination for city breaks and longer cultural holidays. Combined with visa procedures that have become easier for many international visitors and the new non-stop flights from Brussels, the country is likely to attract more Belgian tourists seeking an alternative to Europe’s more established destinations.
