British artist Monster Chetwynd will return to Antwerp’s Middelheim Museum next month for a weekend of performances, workshops and interactive activities marking the final weekend of her exhibition ‘A Friends Making Machine‘.
On Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, Chetwynd and a group of performers will stage ‘Glow Worm Glue‘, a new performance created especially for the exhibition. Visitors will also be able to take part in workshops and explore Chetwynd’s colourful, surreal world through a range of activities across the sculpture park.
‘A Friends Making Machine’, Chetwynd’s first outdoor museum exhibition, has been on display at the Middelheim Museum since 16 May 2026. The exhibition combines installations, performances and activities for visitors. Its large-scale works resemble gateways to another universe, bringing together collage and bricolage made from simple materials and drawing on references to film, science and art history.
Following performances at the exhibition’s opening weekend, Chetwynd returns to the museum for one final performance weekend. In ‘Glow Worm Glue’ (2026), she and her performers move through the park like glow worms, taking visitors on an intimate journey past sculptures, creatures and stories.
The performance brings several of the exhibition’s installations, including ‘Proscenium Arches‘ and ‘Dragon Island‘, to life. Along the way, the performers introduce the audience to an eccentric new cast of park inhabitants, including elephant and eel figures and unusual slime mould creatures.
The weekend programme also includes the return of the interactive Iron Age Pasta Necklace Workshop. Visitors can experience ‘Tears‘ while rolling around inside a zorb, experiment for themselves in the Shadow Animals Discovery Studio, or join a short ‘Close-up‘ guided tour on Saturday.
The performance weekend runs from 10:00 to 17:00 on both days, with activities taking place from 13:00 to 17:00. All activities are free and no booking is required.
